Septic System Rejuvenation
Septic system rejuvenation is a non-excavation rehabilitation process designed to restore drainage capacity to a failing or partially failed drainfield without the cost and disruption of full system replacement. The most common method uses Terralift equipment: a pneumatic probe inserted into the drainfield soil injects high-pressure air to fracture the compacted biomat layer, opening new drainage pathways in the surrounding soil. Biological amendments — concentrated aerobic bacteria — are then injected to re-establish healthy microbial populations that naturally break down the remaining organic blockage.
Rejuvenation works best on drainfields where the soil itself is structurally intact and the primary problem is biomat accumulation. It is less effective when the soil has been permanently damaged, when distribution pipes are broken, or when high water tables are the root cause. A successful treatment typically restores normal drainage within 30–60 days and can extend system life by 5–15 years.
What This Means for You
If your drainfield shows signs of failure, get a professional evaluation before committing to full replacement. Rejuvenation costs $2,500–$6,000 compared to $15,000–$40,000 for replacement. Not every system can be saved, but when the underlying conditions are right, it's the most cost-effective path forward. We evaluate systems honestly — if rejuvenation won't work, we'll tell you.
