Septic Tank Maintenance Pumping & Manhole Riser Replacement – Belle Plaine, MN 56011
· Belle Plaine, Sibley County, MN · Septic Tank Maintenance Pumping
Problem
This Belle Plaine, MN septic system was due for routine maintenance pumping. The system consists of a 1,500-gallon two-compartment septic tank, a 1,000-gallon pump chamber, and a mound drainfield system. During service, we identified several items that will need attention. The screws securing the electrical control box were heavily rusted and stripped, preventing the box from being opened for inspection or future electrical service. We also found that the conduit used for the pump cords is too small for the electrical plugs to pass through. When the pump eventually requires replacement, the existing conduit will need to be replaced or modified so the pump and cord can be properly serviced. While opening the first septic tank compartment, the existing concrete manhole cover broke into three pieces. Because the damaged concrete cover could no longer be safely reused, it needed to be removed from the property and replaced.
Solution
Minnesota Sewer Pros pumped and serviced the 1,500-gallon two-compartment septic tank and 1,000-gallon pump chamber as part of the system's regular maintenance. The broken concrete manhole cover was removed from the property and properly disposed of. We installed approximately 6 inches of riser and a new green, bolt-down plastic septic cover. The new cover was installed flush with the surrounding grade so the lawn can still be mowed normally while providing much easier access for future septic pumping and maintenance. The green cover also helps the new access point blend naturally into the lawn. The rusted electrical control-box screws and undersized pump-cord conduit were documented so they can be corrected before they interfere with a future pump replacement or electrical repair. The system's mound configuration and major components were also noted for future service history, giving the property owner a better record of the septic system and its maintenance needs.
