First Grease Trap Pumping at New Shakopee Restaurant – 1,500 Gallon Commercial Trap

Problem

This was the first scheduled grease trap service for a new restaurant in Shakopee, MN. The property has a 1,500-gallon commercial grease trap with two heavy steel manhole covers that are designed to be bolted shut. During paving, asphalt was installed over the edges of the covers and packed into the bolt holes, making it impossible to unbolt and open the manholes normally. Access to the grease trap had to be established before pumping could begin.

Minnesota Sewer Pros carefully removed the entire steel manhole casting from the surrounding asphalt to gain access to the 1,500-gallon grease trap and complete the first pumping service. The trap was successfully pumped and serviced. Before the next scheduled pumping, a technician will need to chisel the asphalt out of the bolt holes and remove the buried bolts so the steel covers can be opened normally for future maintenance. This first service also identified the access issue early, allowing it to be corrected before the restaurant's ongoing grease trap maintenance becomes more difficult.
