Failed Septic Pump Replacement & Overfilled Tanks in Mound, MN

 · Mound, Hennipen County, MN  · Failed Septic Pump Replacement & Overfilled Tank

Problem

A homeowner in Mound, Minnesota had a septic system with two 1,000-gallon septic tanks and a 1,000-gallon pump tank. When Minnesota Sewer Pros arrived, all three tanks were surcharged and the wastewater level had risen to approximately grass level, indicating that the system was not pumping properly. Testing confirmed that the effluent pump had failed due to a bad motor. The alarm float was also not functioning, which meant the system was unable to provide the normal high-water warning as the tanks became overfilled. The first septic tank also contained an unusually large amount of grease for a residential septic system. The grease accumulation was severe enough that the tank resembled what we commonly see when servicing a commercial restaurant grease trap. Because the entire system was severely overfilled, we were only able to completely pump the first septic tank and the pump tank during this service.

Solution

Minnesota Sewer Pros diagnosed and repaired this failed septic pump system in Mound, MN. We pumped and thoroughly cleaned the first 1,000-gallon septic tank, removing an abnormal amount of accumulated grease, and emptied the 1,000-gallon pump tank so the failed pumping equipment could be safely accessed and replaced. Testing determined that the existing effluent pump motor had failed and that the alarm float was also defective. We removed the failed equipment and installed a new Goulds PE51 effluent pump along with a new pump control float and a new high-water alarm float. After the repair, the pump system once again had a functioning effluent pump, pump control float, and high-water alarm float. The unusually heavy grease accumulation in the primary septic tank was also documented because excessive fats, oils, and grease can interfere with normal septic system operation and should be kept out of residential septic systems whenever possible. This septic pump troubleshooting, septic tank cleaning, and Goulds effluent pump replacement was completed in Mound, Minnesota 55364, Hennepin County.
